I spent my Semana Santa (Spring break fell over Easter week here) seeing more of Venezuela and wow is it beautiful.

The first part of the week I spent in CarupaƱo, a part of the Oriente up in a point of Venezuela. I traveled with Rafael, his brother, and brother’s fiancee to meet his family. He literally grew up 5 minutes from the beach, which I find to be so unfair. We hung out, did some cleaning to help out his parents, went to the beach, and played cards at night. His mom celebrated her birthday while we were there and we had a big grill out.

The second part of the week was spent on the other end of Venezuela on a missions trip to Cata, another beach. We were there with several other churches with an organization called Lighthouse, which exists in many other countries. We did evangelism through talking to people on the beach while we made yuyitos (hair wraps). I really enjoyed how open Venezuelans are and willing to talk to us about their lives. They were receptive to our message. A cool aspect to the trip was that one of the guys had a professional camera and took pictures of us with each person after we finished the yuyito. We handed out tracts and on it wrote the name of our facebook group with a promise that their photos would be uploaded there to see. In this way, we hope to connect with many of the people we interacted with. We also showed The Ultimate Gift on the beach one night and about 40 people showed up to watch. My favorite part of the trip was the time we spent as a group at night, talking over the day and what we were learning. We shared time in worship and I felt really encouraged by them.
